Some of the key provisions of the law include:

  • Creating a centralized adoption unit within the Department of Children’s Services to provide support and guidance to families throughout the adoption process.
  • Establishing a committee to study the state’s adoption policies and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Expanding the availability of post-adoption services, such as counseling and support groups, to help families navigate the challenges of adopting a child.
  • Providing financial incentives to families who adopt children with special needs or who are part of a sibling group.

Governor Lee stated that the Forever Homes Act is intended to help more children find permanent, loving homes and reduce the time and costs associated with the adoption process. The law received bipartisan support in the Tennessee legislature and has been praised by adoption advocates and child welfare organizations.
